What is the High Alpine Safari?
✕It is a guided, custom itinerary across the Reserve. We plan with you before arrival, then adjust day by day based on weather, season, and what you want to do. Adventures range from hikes and rides to fishing, wildlife drives, wellness, and backcountry overnights
When is the lodge open?
✕Trinchera welcomes guests year-round, shifting by season. The Lodge is generally closed during parts of March and April. Please inquire for exact dates.

How do I get to Trinchera?
✕Trinchera is easily reached by a number of regional airports. Best options are as follows:
San Luis Valley Regional Airport (ALS) in Alamosa is the closest airport to Trinchera, just 35 minutes away and offers a daily nonstop flight from Denver as well as FBO service for private aircrafts. We offer complimentary transportation to and from San Luis Valley Regional Airport (ALS).
Taos Regional Airport is 70 miles away, an easy 1.5 hour drive. Next closest airports include Pueblo Memorial, 90 miles away and Denver International and Albuquerque International are approximately 200 miles away (~4 hour drives).
We can assist you in making arrangements for your convenience and can provide transportation rates from other airports.
Is transportation provided to and from the airport?
✕Transportation from the San Luis Valley Regional Airport in Alamosa is included in the rates. For all other airports, we can assist you in making arrangements for your convenience.
How long is the journey to Trinchera?
✕Trinchera is a 35-minute drive from the San Luis Valley Regional Airport, a 1.5-hour drive from Taos Regional Airport and a 4-hour drive from Denver & Albuquerque Airports.
What should I pack for my stay at Trinchera?
✕We recommend packing comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor activities – including hiking boots and running shoes, as well as any personal items you may need.
We recommend bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, SPF lip balm, and a hat. Due to the elevation, temperatures can fluctuate, so wearing layers is advisable. Guests are welcome to bring their own fishing gear, though we offer a wide selection suited to various skill levels.
Don’t forget your camera for capturing the surrounding wilderness and scenery.
A season-specific and activity-minded packing list will be provided upon confirmation.
How far in advance should I book my stay at Trinchera?

40s–70s°F. Cool mornings, mild afternoons, and variable conditions. Snow can linger at higher elevations; expect a mix of sun, wind, and occasional precipitation.
Summer (July–September)
60s–80s°F in the valley; 50s–70s°F in the mountains. Warm, dry days with cooler temperatures at elevation. Afternoon thunderstorms are common but typically brief.
Fall (September–October)
30s–70s°F. Cool, crisp, and generally stable. Clear skies are common, with colder mornings and evenings.
Winter (November–March)
20s–40s°F in the valley; colder in the mountains. Snow in higher elevations, with cold, dry air and frequent clear, sunny days.
What’s the average length of stay?
✕Trinchera offers endless adventures so we recommend guests spend five to seven nights in order to experience all the Reserve has to offer. We have a minimum three-night stay at Trinchera.
What is the altitude and how should I prepare for it?
✕Elevation across the ranch’s 172,000 acres ranges from approximately 7,500 feet above sea level along the San Luis Valley floor up to 14,345 feet at the top of Blanca Peak.

What is the best time of year to travel to Trinchera?
✕A visit to Trinchera is guided by the land, with exciting ways to explore in every season. The best time to visit can be determined by what you’re looking to experience on your High Alpine Safari. Hiking, biking, and fly fishing are at their best during the warmer months, while the winter offers its own signature activities like snowshoeing and nordic skiing. The wildlife, the stars, and the conservation are part of this landscape year round adding meaningful experiences in all seasons.
Is Trinchera family-friendly?

Are there any age restrictions for guests?
✕No, there are no age restrictions for guests–although we generally recommend that children 8 yrs+ are best able to enjoy and explore the Reserve and all it has to offer.
Are pets allowed at Trinchera?
✕Only ADA service animals are allowed at Trinchera; if you are privately reserving the Lodge or all accommodations, one to two well-behaved dogs may be allowed based on internal consideration.
What are the dining options at Trinchera?
✕Family style and plated meals are typically served in our dining room or patio with panoramic views of Trinchera Peak. Chef Bea’s cuisine can be defined as refined mountain fare, relying heavily on the land and seasonality for inspiration. Many ingredients grown in Trinchera’s kitchen garden or sourced on property, including ranch-produced honey, and local San Luis Valley farms. During your stay, your menu can be made exactly as you like. All preferences and dietary restrictions are accommodated.
Do you offer room service?

Is there a dress code at Trinchera?
✕There is no specific dress code. We encourage guests to dress comfortably for the activities they plan to participate in.
Will I have wifi and cell phone service?
✕Yes, The Lodge’s common areas and guest rooms enjoy strong Wi-Fi. However, cell service can be intermittent.
What is the laundry service like at Trinchera?
✕Laundry service is available upon request, so you can enjoy fresh, clean clothes for your outdoor adventures. Please note that dry cleaning services are not available at the Ranch.

✕One 60-minute massage treatment is included per adult during your stay. Additional treatments may be booked for a fee.
Do I need to bring my own outdoor equipment?
✕No, all the equipment you’ll need for adventures and activities are provided in their entirety. However, you are more than welcome to bring your own equipment if preferred.

Do you have any medical facilities on the ground in cases of emergencies?
✕We do not have specific medical facilities at Trinchera, but our wilderness staff are first-aid trained and our consulting doctor is one hour away. Safety and emergency protocols are in place.
